Can I get a whoop whoop?… Check me out, former fattie come superwoman!… This is by far my most remarkable physical achievement to date.
All those hours in the gym, sweating like a dog, flushed in the face, hair a mess, dressed like a tit (no one looks good in sweat bands, not even me!), the aching muscles, the small injuries, the broken nails – how they pain me! I got through all of that apparent trauma by simply sucking it up. I bob along to my tunes like no ones watching, mind my own business and bang out those workouts, and they have paid off!
It got me thinking about other aspects of life. In the gym I knew what I wanted to achieve but I had no idea how to make it happen. I spent years just running, I lifted the occasional weight, but mainly I focused on cardio, I was losing weight, and getting fitter, but I wasn’t getting the body or strength that I wanted. So I enlisted the help of a professional, and with that I was provided with the knowledge I needed to help me achieve my goals. All the effort comes from me, but without the knowledge my efforts were futile. Misplaced efforts are a good way to waste time.
One of my most favourite sayings is this; ‘the only thing standing between you and success is what’s between your ears’ that couldn’t be more accurate. Knowledge is power.
As individuals we can’t be expected to know everything, which is why it’s so important to invest in obtaining knowledge from those who know better, and why it’s even more important to build and maintain networks of knowledgable people. After all, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know!
Whatever you are trying to achieve in life, don’t do yourself an injustice by failing to ask for help. Even if you have to pay for it, consider the ROI carefully before parting with your cash, but don’t be afraid to spend a little to get something back. You as an individual cannot know everything, put your pride aside and allow yourself the opportunity to achieve something truly remarkable with the help of someone else.
